Welcome.

In the course of my academic career as scholar and university teacher, I did not stick to any one academic specialty. I put my doctoral training in the study of the Jewish and Christian bible into use in the study of classics in other religious traditions originating in India and China. I also concentrated on trying to think through on a fully rational basis some fundamental methodological and philosophical problems involved in trying to interpret, understand, and reason about the message of these classic texts from several different religious traditions. I ended up questioning many assumptions prevalent among scholars and the general public today, and developed an approach to these texts considerably outside the mainstream. This website contains essays (many written for students) explaining this approach and its theoretical foundations, and applying it to writings of Plato, of early Buddhism and Hinduism, early Daoism and Confucianism, early Christianity, and writings from the Gnostic/Occult traditions.

I welcome questions and comments, best directed to me at mi**************@um*.edu.
